I'm in Europe until the end of May, and I'd like to see what oppo's recommendations are for the best car related things to go see while I'm here. I've already done the Porsche and Mercedes–Benz museums in Stuttgart, and am attending the Rallye de Monte Carlo Historique in January.
My budget is pretty flexible, although for the most part I'm too young to do something like rent a car and drive the Nurburgring. Other than that it's wide open, suggest away!
Here are some Porsche engines for your troubles

Are you old enough to rent or buy a car to just drive on normal public (non-Nurburgring) roads? If so, ALPS! There are some incredible driving roads there. Winter adds a totally different dimension to it all. Research roads (winter conditions), ask someone to come along and go drive trough the Alps for a few days. Not the highways, the back roads. I participated in a winter 'rally' (not speed orientated) on public roads in a €500 Subaru through the mostly Austrian Alps in January/February 2013 and had a blast. Do make sure your car comes with snow tires or at the very least all seasons, and get some chains as well. Do be safe in your driving though.
If you want I might be able to find the route I took back then.

I am old enough to rent a car, but it'd probably be like a Volkswagen Polo with an absurd young driver's car. I was already planning on visiting Switzerland and/or Austria though, so this could definitely be a fun thing to do for a day.

The Louwman Museum is worth it.
It is the worlds oldest private collection and it was awesome.
They had the 6-wheeled F1 car and Sbarro cars, Elvis Presley's and other celebrity's cars, lots of crazy stuff.

Excellent. I was in the Netherlands last weekend and loved it there. I'd definitely consider going back.

Definitely visit the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Believe me, it´s worth it.
EDIT: Just read you already done that....

It really doesn't matter what kind of car you get. Small is better than a barge anyway. Just be sure that, if you get the choice, you get the Polo or preferably the Fiesta and not something like a Yaris. You do want to feel what's going on with the car. I did the whole thing in a €500 car, it's fun regardless.

I agree, I was just trying to illustrate my car renting situation, and I have the most experience in small FWD cars anyways. Awesome suggestion though. If you do have any good routes I'd greatly appreciate it!

Ha, I was just about to say "Been there, done that, got the lanyard"
Agreed though, it was an absolute blast.

Amsterdam, I stayed in the Jordaan area. Mostly just did the touristy stuff (Rijksmuseum, Vondel Park, Heineken, canal tour, etc.) but I absolutely LOVED it. Amsterdam is probably the nicest city I've ever been to, and every Dutch person I've had the pleasure of knowing has been great.

I went on a brilliantly organized banger rally, with a well thought out route. I lost that route, but I know one of the guys I went with still has it. It's almost 1 am now, too late to ask him now. If I don't forget I'll try to get it tomorrow.

I'm sure there's some really great roads around them too. And from what I've seen it's all immensely beautiful!

Ugh, do want. My GF and I were planning on going to Iceland for new years, but I don't think that's going to work out. This could be a pleasant alternative however.

They're very similar places culturally. Especially as Iceland was once controlled by the Norwegians. Lillehammer would be a nice place for new years I'd think.

Can you see the northern lights there? I'd get like 384,000,000 boyfriend points if I could take her to see the northern lights.

Yeah probably. I'd say going further north in the country if you want to have a better chance at it. Lillehammer is a beautiful town, right in a river, and the mountains are right there as well.

It's an amazing place. It houses the largest collection of cars in the world. The audio guide is supremely amazingly informative (and dry). Set aside a full day for it. Also great is the Musee Francais du Chemin de Fer (damn you, lack of international keyboard!), also in Mulhouse.

Sorry to inundate you with notifications, but this is related to mine: Mulhouse and the Cite de l'Automobile are right by Switzerland. Could be a little itty bitty road trip!

Not sure if they do public tours, but AMG factory in Affalterbach could be fun. I know, I'm shameless.

There are few things I enjoy more than factory tours. Apparently you can book tours of the AMG facilities, although they list no price which is not a good sign.

I might give them a call just to find out, can't hurt! I'm still getting to know people around here, what exactly do you do for AMG? (I'm assuming you work for them from your name)

That's still cool though, and I bet it's a blast working on the fun stuff like that. I love the craftsmanship and performance of AMGs. Had an S63 to myself for about 6 hours last spring, blew me and all of my friends away.

Oh it's great really! I love my job. Great cars, decent working conditions, challenging at times laid back at others, great diversity in work, I'm in high demand and as long as I don't do something stupid I should always be able to find a job just about anywhere fairly easily. And nice perks like seeing and driving some of the cars before they're released to the public or press (see my recent posts for my GT track days).

Saw them both when you posted them and loved them. I got to see the GT in person at the Paris Motor Show, and the want was strong.

They both rock. Where in Paris do you live? Are you permanently there or is it a foreign exchange sort of thang?

I live in the XVIe arrondissement on Avenue Victor Hugo, about a 2 minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe. I'm studying abroad for an academic year, so I've been here since September and I leave at the end of May.

Unfortunately those are a both after I leave : (
I did look into doing one of their driving events though after that article on the FP. That's my plan if I find myself with a bunch of extra cash before I leave.
